From Ryan et al. (2013) and Moroz et al. (2014) I got an impression that ctenophores tend to be rather unique in this regard and and poriferans tend to be more similar to other animals than to ctenophores.

After reading Moroz et al. (2014) (wrote about it here: http://mprous.blogspot.com/2014/07/) it seems to me that there is no need to postulate the loss of mesoderm in Cnidaria as Ctenophora and Bilateria might have acquired this independently. Are there good reasons to believe that Cnidaria has lost mesoderm?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18030008254403295490noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8165796739811288266.post-10129440484145380302014-08-04T23:51:38.825+03:002014-08-04T23:51:38.825+03:00yes this seems hard to believe..
what do you make...yes this seems hard to believe..

what do you make of the similarities in gene content between sponges and comb jellies in light of their very different morphology/body plans?

would you also consider that cnidarians have lost mesoderm, regardless of whether sponges or ctenophores branch first?
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8165796739811288266.post-75541969202390227172014-06-08T11:27:10.028+03:002014-06-08T11:27:10.028+03:00Thanks, that looks interesting. Another ctenophore...Thanks, that looks interesting. Another ctenophore genome and ten additional transcriptomes! I'll have a look at it.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18030008254403295490noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8165796739811288266.post-625513670692021812014-06-07T21:15:23.614+03:002014-06-07T21:15:23.614+03:00You may be interested in
